Charging Procedures

  • The West Valley Child Nutrition department recognizes that on occasion, parents forget to deposit school meal money into student account. To ensure students do not go hungry, but also to promote responsibility and minimize the fiscal burden to the Child Nutrition department, the following steps will be enforced.

    1. All students will be allowed to charge reimbursable breakfast and/or lunch meals up to $10.00 on their lunch account.
    • Charges will not be allowed for non-student meals, second meals, a la carte purchases, and milk.
    1. When a student exceeds the $10.00 limit, they will receive a courtesy snack consisting of a unlimited fruits, vegetables, and milk at lunch and cereal and milk at breakfast. Students will be offered a courtesy snack until adequate funds are made into their lunch account.
    2. Families can find assistance with free or reduced price meals by:
      • Paper Application: Return a complete free and reduced meal application to the Child Nutrition office. Applications are available at your school office or kitchen.Online Application:
      • Online application is available at www.schoolunchapp.com.
    3. Communication will be made to parents for full payment of account from Child Nutrition via receipts, phone, and email.
      • Low Balance Receipts: Elementary (K-4) students are provided a low balance receipt at the point of sale.
      • Email Reminders: An automated balance alert email will be sent at regular intervals to families with low or negative balances.
      • Phone Call Reminders: Child Nutrition staff will follow up with phone calls to families with outstanding negative balances.
    4. Payment Options:
      • Pay Online: Make online payments to your student’s account using a credit, debit, or electronic check at www.myschoolbucks.com. Parents may view student lunch account activity, set up automatic payments, and low balance notifications.
      • Pay in Person: Stop by the Child Nutrition office at 7507 Zier Road between 7:00am and 2:00pm, Monday through Friday to pay with cash or check.
      • Account Transfers: Transfer of funds within sibling accounts to cover meals or negative balances can be completed by contacting the Child Nutrition office.
      • Pay in the Mail: Send a check to WVCN 7507 Zier Rd, Yakima, WA 98908. Checks should be made payable to WVSD. Please include student’s name and student ID number when sending a payment.
    5. No charges will be allowed the last two weeks of every school year to make certain that all debts are paid in full by the end of the year.
    6. Any outstanding balances will be added to the student’s fees and fines list at the end of the school year.
    7. Refunds:
      • Students withdrawing or graduating from the district can request a refund by contacting the Child Nutrition office.
      • Unclaimed Funds: All refunds must be requested within one year. Unclaimed funds will then become the property of the West Valley Child Nutrition Department.
