Welcome to 2016-17!

There is no time as exciting as the anticipation for the start of a new school year. We are anxiously awaiting Tuesday, August 30th – the start of the 2016-17 school year here in West Valley.

This is the beginning of my sixth year as the Superintendent of West Valley School District. I am proud to have the opportunity to serve such an outstanding community made up of patrons, parents, students, and staff with high expectations for performance. We are very proud of our outstanding record of accomplishment here in West Valley and are anticipating 2016-17 to be another outstanding year in our proud tradition.

We have worked hard at delivering the most outstanding level of communication that you could have from a school district. Communication is Goal #1 here in West Valley and we will only continue to look for new ways to keep you in the loop with all that is happening. We use a bi-weekly newsletter – WV Connection that will keep you up to date on happenings in and around the district. We use a newly revamped website to draw traffic and attention to what is happening in and around our district and individual schools. I have a Superintendent’s Blog off the website as well as the maintenance of a twitter account @SuptBrophy.

Finally, we are thrilled at the move to our ENGAGE – Blended Learning Initiative, and the 1-1 Chromebook rollout over the next 12 months. On the first day of school this year all 5th and 6th grade students will receive a Chromebook to use at school and at home. In January, this will extend to all 7th and 8th grade students, and next August to all 9th through 12th grade students. We believe we will effectively blend the teaching and learning environments at all of our schools to the point of better maximizing student performance.

It is a very exciting time here in West Valley! Please contact me at brophym@wvsd208.org, or (509) 972-6005 with any questions or ideas on how we can continue to improve as we are committed to a Continual Improvement Model.
