Masks Indoors but No Masks Outdoors - Regardless of vaccination status
WVSD is approaching the fall school year the same way we approached summer school classes.
All parents, students, staff, volunteers, visitors, and vendors are required to wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Masks are not required outdoors. These protocols follow Washington State requirements and CDC guidelines and are intended to keep our children in school. Other measures include continuing to maintain at least 3’ distance in the classroom and doing our best to maintain 6’ of distance at lunch or assigning seats when that distance cannot be achieved, so tracing and testing are easier to maintain. Our goal is to keep our students in the classroom this year where studies show it’s best for their mental, physical, emotional, and educational well-being.
New following COVID-19: Nurses in every school
This year is the first time WVSD will have nurses in every school. The District is using Emergency Relief Funds to pay for the additional positions. Several children are still recovering from the emotional and physical impacts of COVID-19 and being isolated from their peers. Nursing staff can assist our school counselors and take pressure off our school secretaries that often fill the role of students’ medication and symptom management. Superintendent Peter Finch says adding the nurses is a good use of the available resources and will improve overall health services to our children.
