Summitview’s 5th Grade field trip to Camp Dudley
In October, our 5th grade students from Summitview Elementary were able to participate in a field trip to Camp Dudley located in the Cascade Mountains.
Teacher Katie Heary said, “There is something about being up in the mountains that make things wonderful, relaxing, and refreshed. The children who are always moving in the classroom; this was their element. The children who are typically shy, broke out into laughter and conquered challenges they didn’t think they could do. The children who have done camping before, stepped up and helped other students.” Ms. Heary continued, “For all of the children, their willingness to step out of comfort zones, away from electronics, and be children, was so good for them.”

My Trip to Camp Dudley
By August Alexander, Student
My class went to Camp Dudley. We had so much fun. We did a lot of things together. We got put in groups with random people and we had a lot of fun. One of the really fun things we did was balancing challenges. One of the balancing challenges was to keep a big board balanced with all of us on it. The record was 39 seconds. We beat the record which was really cool. We went on a nature hike which was so cool – the view was really pretty and we saw a lot of fish. The fish were really cool. They had black with white spots. We also got to see a dam which was really cool. We saw a waterfall which was really pretty. We also went on a trail. There was a small waterfall and I touched the water. The water was so cold!
We had so much fun on the field trip. One of the things that went really well was our teamwork. Our teamwork was really good and it helped a lot in the games we were doing and the challenges. Our team won one of the challenges. Another thing that went well was our listening skills. We listened really good to our counselor. I never heard someone ask “What are we doing?” which I thought was really nice. We were listening and using teamwork on our field trip.
Obviously, there were good things but there were bad things, too. Something I didn't like was running out of energy. I wanted to run to everything but I did run out of energy – like when we were on the hike. I was behind everybody and I had to run but I ran out of energy. I also didn't really like that we had to stay with our group. I know it was safer to stay with our group but I would have preferred to go on the hike with just my friends.
I loved our trip to Camp Dudley. I had a lot of fun and did a lot of things. I’m so excited to go again. All of the stuff we did was fun and I loved the hike. I really enjoyed the whole experience.

The Camp Dudley Field Trip
By Ezra Arreguin
My entire school’s 5th grade went to the YMCA Camp Dudley in the mountains. We went canoeing, went on a hike, and ate lunch.
I liked canoeing and eating lunch. When we went canoeing, it was just me and my best friend. The water was so tranquil! Before we went onto the lake, the director told us to go to the right of the island – Strawberry Island – not to go to the left of the island or else the current would take us away. We went to the left on accident and we were super scared, but we were able to get out of there.
I also liked the lunch. The chicken alfredo was good and the garlic bread was heavenly.
What I didn’t like, you ask? I didn’t like the last activity about teamwork, because I felt nauseous after the activity.
That was how I felt about the field trip. If you want more information, just ask me in real life. Please don’t make me type anymore!

My Adventure at Camp Dudley
By Liya Rodriguez
For our field trip, we went to Camp Dudley. I had a lot of fun.
We were able to do a lot of fun activities. A week before we went to Camp Dudley, we got to pick if we wanted to do rock climbing or canoeing and I picked rock climbing. It was so much fun. I also got to do something called long rope and a nature walk.
Even though we did not get to do all of the activities I still had a lot of fun. Camp Dudley was a lot of fun and I thank Camp Dudley for letting us go to camp.
